Scott D. Paul

Mr. Paul earned a B.S. in Materials and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Connecticut in 1988 and an M.B.A. and J.D., magna cum laude, from Florida State University in 1998. His practice is devoted to patent application preparation and prosecution, as well as strategic counseling with respect to patent rights. Mr. Paul’s knowledge of patent application preparation and prosecution includes both United States domestic patent practice as well as international patent practice involving the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).

Mr. Paul has obtained considerable experience in appellate practice before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences within the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He has successfully acquired patent rights in technical fields ranging from mechanical systems to computing technologies.  Mr. Paul has acquired extensive experience in the preparation of patent applications and the prosecution of patent applications relating to semiconductor processing/manufacturing equipment and computing technologies.
Formerly a founding partner of Carey, Rodriguez, Greenberg & Paul, Mr. Paul practiced in the intellectual property group of the Washington, D.C. office of McDermott, Will & Emery. He also previously practiced patent prosecution in the law firm of Quarles & Brady. Earlier in his career, Mr. Paul was a materials and manufacturing engineer with United Technologies Corporation.
